This season, Mother of Pearl has collaborated with London based artist Polly Morgan, using her artwork as the basis for the prints and embellishments that run throughout the collection.

Known for her still lives with the animals as the subject, Polly Morgan’s artwork dismantles taxidermy traditions and places her subjects in less expected surroundings. Her intention has never been to mimic the natural habitats of animals, as they are traditionally displayed, but to place them in less expected scenery. The scale and settings are often unnatural, but the animals are never anthropomorphised. Seeing them out of place encourages us to look at them as if for the first time: a rat sheds its association with horror and disease and can be rightly viewed as a beautiful animal.

The artworks chosen from Morgan’s body of work include Dead Ringer (2009), Claustrophobia (2011), Bad Breath (2011) and Still Birth (2010).
